CHAPTER 49: RETURNING FROM THE FOREST VILLAGE, WE WENT BACK TO THE BLACKSMITH’S SHOP FOR SOME REPAIRS

Soon we found some clumps of herbs, harvested them, and returned to the guild.

Then we reported that the request was fulfilled, received the reward, and we are now back at the inn.

This request was a little mentally tiring, but I think we got a lot of money.
Granny Hana was a little noisy, but I felt realized her knowledge of herb collection was a genuine article.
In particular, her knowledge is backed by her many years of experience in collecting herbs.
In a place where herbs grow easily, her knowledge is worth a thousand coins.

I left the others left half halfway through, pulling out the rest of my paper and pencils I used in the beginner’s dungeon from my backpack while desperately taking notes.
And as a matter of course, I even asked Granny Hana a question or two.

I apologized to everyone later, but I felt like I shouldn’t say anything when I was told, “You saved us from dealing with Granny Hana.”

“Dinner is ready!” (Inn Keeper)

The bar’s owner screams from downstairs.

We’re already used to the loud voice of the innkeeper here.
Thinking that we had been staying in this village for that long.
So I went down the stairs, joined everyone, and sat down after looking for a vacant seat.

I glanced at today’s supper in front of me with a small hum.

 Brown stew and black bread.
Nothing changed today.
This is always the basic meal even if the village changes.
Sometimes I want to eat something different, but I have no idea about what could be good.
Will something change if Mel introduces me to a high-class store?

When I was spooning the stew with a wooden spoon while thinking about it, Gilm-san appeared from the entrance, and when he found us, he approached.

“Oh, I’ll be done tomorrow.
Please get ready.” (Gilm)

Suddenly he sat down in an empty space at our table.

I take a piece of black bread while looking sideways at the three people who were looking happy while saying “Can we finally go home?”

I feel happy that our work is finally over, but I have some regrets.

I wanted to hear more from Granny Hana, and I think we should find out more about the Fairy Garden and the Fairy Gate.
However, the Fairy Gate has been cleaned up by [Purification] until it changes back, I feel that it is better to stay away from it.

 …… Hmm, it’s difficult.

Anyway, I’m with a party now and I came to this village on request, so it wouldn’t be possible to extend my stay in this village.
I have no choice but to return quietly as it is.

With that in mind, I dipped the black bread in the stew and then threw it into my mouth.

“I hope the Merchant guild here did their best yesterday.
Herbs were gathered earlier than originally planned.
If you’re happy that we could go back early, thank the commercial guild.”

While saying that, Gilm-san laughed, “Gahaha!”

 Yup.
So that’s it.

It was Gilm-san who was the one who requested to buy a huge amount of herbs.

The next day, we packed our luggage and left the inn.
Then, we left the village with Gilm-san.

We moved and proceeded on escorting the carriage.
We stayed overnight at the campsite we used when he came to the Forrest Village, and returned to Rankfurt without any major problems, despite being attacked by a group of Forest Wolves several times.

The next day, I went to Gildan’s blacksmith because I was on our scheduled vacation.

I used to practice spears on Earth, but of course, this was the first time I had actually fought using a real spear, and I had used it in various ways.
That’s why I wanted to have a professional take a look at the iron spear.

I walked through the main street, enter the back alley, and open the door of Gildan’s Blacksmith Shop.

“Welcome! Oh, Rook.
What happened today? Are they with you?” (Gildan)

While being greeted by Gildan-san’s cheerful voice, I went inside, told him that I wanted him to check the spear.
So I handed him the iron spear.

Gildan-san looks at the spear from various angles.

“Hmmm.
There is some distortion.
There is also a slight chip on the tip of the blade.
Did you hit a bone or something hard? Iron blades are easily damaged.
If you want to use it for a long time, aim firmly at the gap between the bones…….
Well, this would just cost one silver coin to fix though.” (Gildan)

Gildan-san said as he looked at me.

Indeed, I must have stabbed the spear into the goblin’s skull.

I felt that it would be better to kill it with a single blow to a fatal area.
Moreover, it is a result of avoiding hitting the heart because it seemed that I might damage the magic stone.
So, I aimed at the head, but it seems that it was a bad move.

Looking back, I feel like everyone was aiming at the nape or the belly of the monster.

Hmm… I do think that I have to put some thought into not only defeating monsters but also how to defeat them properly.

This kind of thing would not be learned just by learning martial arts in peaceful Japan.
It may be better to rethink how to fight again.

With that in mind, I took out a silver coin from the bag and handed it to Gildan-san.

Then Gildan-san turned to the back and shouted, “Oi Gil, here’s some work!”

After a while, a young man similar to Dan appears from the back of the counter.

Gildan gave the young man my iron spear and explained a few things, and the young man took my spear and disappeared into the back.

“It will be over soon.
Wait for a minute.” (Gildan)

Gildan-san says so, so I waited in the store for a while.

 The young man from earlier.
He was called Gil, and I wonder if he was Dan’s brother who will be succeeding this shop.
Their faces were similar, and the names are from Gildan-san both Gil’s and Dan’s, very similar.

“It looks like your job this time took a long time.
So, how is he doing?” (Gildan)

While I was thinking about Gildan-san’s naming sense, Gildan asked me this.

After all, this person doesn’t show it in front of Dan, but he’s really worried about Dan.
I was a little disappointed when I found out that Dan wasn’t there when I came in.

“He’s serious and trusted by a lot of people, and it seems that the guild has high expectations of him.
I think he’s a great leader that I wish to learn from.”

I’ve been aware of it since I was in Japan, but when I was watching Dan, I realized that I wasn’t suitable for a leader.
Same with Masa-san, I think it’s a kind of talent to listen to everyone, decide the direction the group as a whole will take, and have everyone cooperate together.

Just thinking about creating my own party or group with me at the center seems like a recipe for stress and baldness. [T/N: It’s a belief in some Asian countries, not just Japan, that stress can cause balding, grey hair, stomach ulcers, etc.]
