Chapter 12 – “Is there a rule that if you save a girl who is about to die, she will fall in love with you?”

“Uhh.”

I’d decided to fight the Lesser Grizzly, but there was one thing I'd to deal with in my current situation.
That was, I have to stop the Lesser Grizzly from rushing towards the girl.

I activated my body-strengthening magic and leaped straight into the path of the Lesser Grizzly's rush, catching its momentum with the bottom of my palm.

Normally, stopping a bear's charge with one hand would be out of the realm of humanity, but magic exists in this world, and by using it, you can compete with creatures that humans could never compete with.

However, even so, to be able to fight an opponent that a flesh-and-blood human would have no chance against was a rare thing in this world.
However, I didn't have time to think about such trivial things right now, so I turned my attention to the bear in front of me.

The Lesser Grizzly, whose momentum had been completely killed by my palm strike, took a few steps back with a shocked expression on its face.
At the same time, I sensed that its level of caution towards me had gone up several notches.

On the other hand, the girl who was supposed to be overrun by the Lesser Grizzly had just turned her gaze toward me, suspicious that no attack had come.

“Eh, ah, umm”

“It's dangerous.
Stay back.”

The girl was confused by my sudden appearance, but my words brought her back to herself and she left the scene.
The girl was close in age to me, in her early teens, with peach-colored hair and blue eyes.
She was still very young, so she didn't have a feminine, well-proportioned body, but her eyes and nose were well-developed, and she had the appearance of a beautiful girl.

“Gaaaaaaa”

“Oops, so much for my assessment of the girl's appearance, I guess it's time for a serious fight.”

Perhaps mistakenly thinking that its prey had been stolen, the Lesser Grizzly roared and charged at me.
Its movements were not fast, but its powerful running showed that it had high physical strength and defensive capabilities.

But as they say, it doesn't matter if you didn't get hit, and since I'm more agile, I could easily dodge the Lesser Grizzly's attack.

If I continue to avoid it, I wouldn't be able to defeat it, so I tried to behead it with my hand sword like the goblin I defeated in the middle of the forest to try to fight back.

“You're telling me that one-hit techniques won't work on a mid-boss?”

The blow that had so easily clipped the goblin's neck was blocked by the fur and fat of the Lesser Grizzly's neck.
However, the impact and damage of the blow seemed to be transmitted, and a roar of anger echoed through the forest.

The enraged Lesser Grizzly swung its stiff arm.
The destructive power of this attack had the power to easily kill a human being.
……
But it won't hit me.

Just as I was getting tired of playing tag with the Lesser Grizzly, I saw out of the corner of my eye that a girl was watching over me from a little distance.
It was a waste of time to keep fighting like this, so I decided to settle the matter at once.

“This is the end.
[Aquaball]”

The water attribute was one of the four basic elements, and this magic was the most rudimentary of them all.
That is the Aquaball.

As the name implies, all you had to do was create a ball of water and hit your opponent with it, but this magic could be very useful depending on how you use it.

Let's have a little science lesson here.
Almost all living things in the world breathe.
So what exactly is breathing?

Here's the problem.
In order to breathe, you have to exhale and inhale through your mouth, but what happens if you cover your mouth with an Aquaball?

“Gobo, Gobobobo”

“The answer is, “You can't breathe and you'll drown.””

It was not effective against aquatic organisms that live in water, or insects that take oxygen into their bodies by special methods other than breathing through their lungs, but most organisms that live on land can be defeated by this method.

However, the opponent wouldn't easily give you a chance to launch an Aquaball.
It was not absolute, but there was a very high chance of defeating them.

While I was thinking about this and other things in my head, the Lesser Grizzly had become the bear who would not return…….
The cause of death was obvious, drowning.

Although this method of defeating the Lesser Grizzly was effective, it was rarely used in actual combat.
The reason was simple, magic was difficult to control.

In the first place, magic was a physical phenomenon that uses the magical power within the body to make natural phenomena such as fire and water appear out of thin air.

It wasn't hard to imagine how difficult it would be to create something out of nothing, a phenomenon unthinkable in the common sense of humanity on Earth, and how difficult it would be to freely control the magic that appeared at will.

However, the training that I’d been doing every day without fail has enabled me to control my magic with precision.
The result was this time's drowning strategy of using the Aquaball.

“This is the first time I've used it on a monster of this strength, but this looks pretty useful.”

As I was grinning at the fact that I was able to confirm the usefulness of this technique in a way I hadn't intended, I felt a presence approaching behind me.

When I turned around, the girl from earlier was standing there, looking like she wanted to say something, but I decided to play it safe and check on her safety.

“Are you okay?”

“Wa, Yes! You saved my life.
Thank you very mush.”

(She bit her tongue…..)

Maybe it was because she was relieved of the tension, or maybe it was because she was relieved of the thing that had been straining her.

I read the air and didn't react to her biting her tongue and decided to introduce myself first.

“Nice to meet you, I'm Roland Malbert, the eldest son of the Malbert family.
And you are?”

“Y-yes.
My name is Lauren Byreus.
The eldest daughter of the Byreus family.”

(I knew it, he brought his daughter with him.)

I had expected that the Margrave Byreus, who was not a very distant person, might have brought his daughter with him on this visit to save himself a lot of trouble, but my prediction turned out to be correct.
After all, unpleasant predictions often come true.

Then, once I knew that she was the eldest daughter of the Byreus family, there would be a problem.
Of course, I mean that it would interfere with my plans.

Assuming that she, Lauren, is really the daughter of Margrave Byreus, there is an ongoing problem.
That was, she's looking at me with feverish eyes.

Lauren's face was so red that I could see that she is harboring the flowery idea of a hero who appeared gallantly in her crisis and saved her from her predicament.

If I let her go on like this, it was obvious that she'll want to be my fiancée.
So I decided to come up with a plan.

“Lady Lauren, do you mind if you wait a moment?”

“Roland-sama, please just call me Lauren.”

“No, that's not possible.
Anyway, I would appreciate it if you could wait a moment.”

I immediately used my wind magic to call Mark, who was in the mansion, using a spell called [Whisper] to make my voice reach someone far away.

A few minutes later, my little brother soon arrived.
He probably used the magic of physical enhancement to the fullest.

However, something unexpected happened here as well.
Mark arrived with my little sister, Laura, in his arms.

I guessed that Laura had found him when he was about to leave the mansion, and after interrogating him, she had found out that he was going to meet me, so she had asked him to take her with him.

“Thank you for coming, Mark.”

“If my brother calls, I'll be there under any circumstances.”

“So, before we get down to business, can you explain to me why Laura is here?”

Mark confirmed that, as I had predicted, he had been caught in the doorway of the mansion, and after some questioning, she found out that I had called him to go to my location, and as expected, he was told to take herself with him.
…..Truly unpleasant predictions were often true.

“It's not fair that ani-sama only focuses on Mark.
Please let me be a part of it.”

I dodged Laura's request and briefly explained the situation.

I introduced Lauren to Mark and Laura, who understood the situation, and we immediately tried to discuss the cover-up with them, but there was another trouble.

“Lauren-sama, would you mind stepping away from my brother for a moment? It would be inappropriate for a young lady who has only just met him to be near him.”

“Ara, I think it's you who should be more courteous, no matter how close you are as siblings.
Or is it that you are a member of a noble family and have no etiquette at all?”

In front of my eyes, an eight-year-old girl and a presumably ten-year-old girl were engaged in a fierce battle over a man.
