At
ground level, there is a small MUSEUM with exhibits
concerning St. Thomas and the history of Santhome.
Each exhibit is a accompanied by an explanatory
plaque.
National
Shrine of St.Thomas maintains a museum that is
a treasure house of great antiquity, which contains
the lance head that pierced St.Thomas, a rare
piece of his precious bone, a chair and a stone
receptacle. There are also other Monograms, Persian
Medallions, multilingual inscriptions, St.Thomas
coins and paintings on canvas.
Above
the museum is a mini Theatre meant for screening
a short video on Saint Thomas and the Santhome
Cathedral.
A
mini theatre has been constructed to project the
life of St.Thomas and also the historical events
that are associated with his life and presence
in our country. The inspiration for building a
mini theatre was got from great international
Shrines like Lourdes, Fatima and Padua where the
pilgrims are given a historical preview of the
shrine, its religious significance and the various
events that have taken place during the history
of the shrine. Projecting the life of St.Thomas
on the screen will provide pilgrims an opportunity
not only to have first hand information of the
Basilica but will also foster a deeper divine
experience, which they really seek.
